Those Alberta Storms Winter storms in the spring are nothing new to Albertans. Storms can cause major damage to limbs or entire trees which can result in damage to other property. These trees need to be removed or trimmed to lessen the long-term damage to the tree and surrounding property.
Why Trees Die There are many reasons why trees die and need to be removed.1. Accidents - Automobiles, storms and even lawnmowers can cause bark damage and wounds on trees. 2. Too much herbicide - Improperly used, herbicides can interact with the roots and damage the tree's health. 3. Soil Compaction - In compacted soil, pore space has been reduced and roots do not get enough oxygen. 4. Bad Planting - Plant trees promptly and make sure they get adequate water so that roots do not dry. 5. Watering - Both over and under watering can be harmful. 6. Location - Trees need proper sunlight and should be appropriate for the plant hardiness zone. 7. Painting tree wounds - Paint on tree wounds will actually trap moisture in the wood, increasing the chances of decay. 8. Improper Pruning - Proper pruning is a tree health treatment, but one of the most neglected. |

Removing trees, especially large trees, can be dangerous work. The certified arborists at For Trees can help determine whether or not a tree should be removed. Removing a tree is usually a last resort, however, there are circumstances where it is necessary. Your tree may be sick or dying, it may be interfering with other trees, buildings, driveways and utility wires, or you may want to remove a tree to make room for a shed or deck. Whatever the reason, make sure you call the professionals. Just remember, it takes years to replace a tree once removed. |

| This tree must be removed. Now what? |
Trees are a major part of the landscape around our homes. They enhance the beauty of our homes as well as shade us from the hot summer sun. However, when a tree dies, you may be forced to come to terms with having your favourite tree removed.Sometimes a tree is causing an obstruction that is impossible to correct through pruning. It may be crowding and causing harm to other trees, or needs to be replaced by a more suitable specimen, or to accommodate new construction. The wisest solution is to hire a trained arborist who can determine the best way to remove the tree and get rid of the stump. For Trees utilize the latest stump removal technology by making use of several different stump grinding machines. One machine can even fit through a 36" gate! For larger jobs a skidsteer mounted unit makes short work of even large stumps. All machines grind stumps into small wood chips which can then be used for composting or directly as mulch. There is no need for messy poisons or costly backhoe excavations. Once the stump has been grinded up, the hole left can be filled with topsoil and seeded or replanted as you wish. We encourage you to grind that old stump and put your land to use growing a new tree or other landscape that will contribute to the cleaning of the air we all breathe.
You can also keep your old tree stump and add it as new focal point in your flower beds. Some people have also chiseled basins out of old stumps and used them as planters. Turn your lemon into lemonade! |
