About True Professionals of Arboriculture

Gerard Fournier: A True Professional of Arboriculture
For Trees owner, Gerard Fournier, receiving his True Professional award from the ISA in 2009.CHAMPAIGN, IL (August, 2009) - Gerard Fournier, owner and Board Certified Master Arborist at For Trees Company in Didsbury, Alberta, Canada was honoured as one of seven "True Professionals of Arboriculture" by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). ISA's immediate past president and panel judge, Lauren Lanphear, introduced Fournier and other award winners before fellow arborists and peers at July's 85th ISA Conference & Trade Show held in Providence, Rhode Island.

"'True Professionals' was designed to highlight a group of today's arborists who represent our profession in the most positive light," says Lanphear. "By recognizing someone like Gerard Fournier and his accomplishments within the community, his actions can be modeled by other arborists as we strive to better our world one tree at a time."

An ISA Board Certified Master Arborist and Certified Tree Worker, Fournier also participates as Tree Canada's Community Advisor for Southern Alberta overseeing the planting of tens of thousands of trees in the region. His company, For Trees, has been named one the Best Nurseries/Greenhouses in Mountain View County and named as the 2005 Small Business of the Year by the Didsbury & District Chamber of Commerce. Fournier also received an award from Landscape Alberta for spearheading the Alberta Arborist Safety Committee that successfully lobbied the government to include tree care workers in Workplace Health and Safety legislation.

"Being recognized as one of ISA's 'True Professionals' is humbling," says Fournier. "During my career as an arborist, I've always done my best to serve and help educate the people of Didsbury and throughout greater Alberta. I think every year we progress further in understanding the importance of trees and proper tree care."

Fournier's creative means of communicating with the general public is apparent through his popular Treevia columns that play daily on local radio waves. Fournier's short Treevia messages provide tree care tips and information to thousands of listeners. Fournier's website and monthly employee newsletter also provide additional details on proper tree care techniques. He also offers summer internships to local college students, and provides regular tours of his renowned Nursery. Active in the community, Fournier speaks at several organizational events, and For Trees also donates various gifts and services to local non-profit and charitable organizations. For Trees' seasonal invitation to voluntarily mulch local resident's Christmas trees following the holiday season is appreciated by many Didsbury residents.
